Pirates Lament
A kinetic sculpture
in defense of those
of us who live by the
Jolly Roger but are
eventually destined
for that pendulous
fate that awaits us
on the docks.
Alluding to the pirate
ensign depicting a skull
and crossbones, it is a
working ship's clock
which displays the time
as well as the current
watch. Every minute
a motor whirrs and
with a gnashing of teeth,
slowly moves the minute
hand ahead, uh, one minute.
On the half hour another
motor turns on and causes
the bell to count out ships
bell time. Every four
hours the watch wheel
advances to the next
watch.
