"It's Alive"!

A blatantly, self-serving, unauthorized,
autobiography of noted kinetic artist,

R. Bruce Salinger

Robotic Art

My success with single motor sculptures only whetted my appetite for more complex sculptures that were animated by (my) intelligent design.  By this time, I could afford to put together sculptures driven by micro-processors.  My chip of choice was the venerable Motorola 6502 (think Apple II).  I still had to wire the board and then program it so these sculptures were very time intensive but they were critically acclaimed at the finer art shows that I was beginning to attend.

These sculptures were my way of delving deeper into the mechanical nature of human behavior.  The first reaction most viewers had to these sculptures is humor.  Then, while the more introspective viewers saw the similarities, the rest would run off to emulate what they had just seen.

It was this period of my career that was the most fun as my skill level had progressed to the point where I was limited only by my own creativity.
